Some body(may be ourselves attracted towards advantages of aluminium) has Initiated Destruction of India in at the most 25-35 Years.

On All India Radio in the night after news discussion was on (27/02/2009)Unminded mining and it was mentioned that lakes in haryana have disappeared to this mining.

As per my knowlege search on Internet, many things were revealed here are some important details of destructive nature of Bauxite mining.

STUDIES ON IMPACT OF PROPOSED LANJIGARH BAUXITE MINING ON BIODIVERSITY INCLUDING WILDLIFE AND ITS HABITAT

......................Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun.

August 2006,

1.0 Introduction

1.1 Bauxite Mining: National perspective.

Bauxite, the most common among aluminium ores is the product of weathering of different aluminium rocks and is mined in many countries the world over near 98% bauxite is mined in tropical regions and those with Mediterranean climate. Bauxite is formed though leaching of soluble minerals, so it is not surprising that mines are generally situated in the areas of high rainfall (average 1487 mm per year). Bauxite deposits mostly occur associated with laterite capping on the hill plateaus at elevations varying from 700 and 2100 m.

The biodiversity, wildlife and habitat values can not be accounted in isolation without taking natural water distribution and their influences on them.
Niyamgiri hills are source of the Vansadhara and Nagaveli rivers. Nearly 36 streams originate all around the Niyamgiri hill. Majority of the streams are originating from lowermost control of the Bauxite layer. It is believed that the Bauxite layer which is formed through leaching also acts as a layer for imbibing water and releasing it’s slowly throughout the year. It is anticipated that the removal of this layer of bauxite will impact ground waters in the region, and consequently the quality of forested habitats.

The team however, has been informed that there are several large bauxite deposits that are occurring in the non-forest areas of Kalahandi and Raygada districts. Why the feasibility of exploration and exploitation of bauxite reserves have not been assessed for proposing bauxite mining in such areas and instead the reserves falling in sensitive habitats in the RFs / PF and other sensitive habitats of conservation importance are being increasingly preferred?

In the nutshell, it can be stated that the Niyamgiri and its adjoining area are excellent remnant forests and wildlife habitat available in the region. Occurrence of less shifting cultivation qualifies the forests and wildlife habitat much better than that of the existing Kotagarh WLS, which at present is suffering from shifting cultivation, fire and other human interferences.
Bauxites occur mainly on the flat plateaus ranging from 1218 m to 1306 m. Theses plateaus are gently sloping at 1:4 to1:10. The mining plan proposes excavation of 78 million tons of overburden. During the restoration process, the gap in material created by the extraction of the bauxite ore will create a void for back filling and restoring the original topographic level of the mining sites. It is estimated in the mining plan that present topographic level after restoration will be lowered by 10-15 m. this will bring changes in geomorphology of the area and enhance several other consequences leading to soil erosion and impact on drainage and forest productivity.

The search brings up hair_Raising_Startling TRUTH and Hard Facts, Krishna River birth place is very close to big lake near Ratnagiri Hill Range, Godavari near Nasik, Ambola (The following 2 lines are from www.mapsofindia.com Amboli receives an annual rainfall of nearly 750 centimeters making it the wettest place in Maharashtra. Due to such a heavy rainfall, the steep hills of Amboli are enveloped with very dense forest. The unforgettable bird eye view of the Konkan beach atop Amboli hills attracts thousands of tourists here. And of course if you want to experience something different, Bauxite Mines are a must visit for you. Just about 10 km away, this place has a pleasant scenic beauty.) North West_coast Marashra(The Steep Western Ghats),

The oldest atlas(1964) I could procure  reveals  a mountain peak near place  called KALSUBAI attainging a height 1646 metres[1.646Km.] above mean sea level[M.S.L.], from where many tributaries of many rivers major and minor begin, Especially Pravara, Mula, Godavari [nasik [586 M.S.L.] is also close to KALSUBAI ] of Godavari,  Ghod a tributary above  tributary Bhima,  of Krishna also starts from a place close to KALSUBAI. Lake Beale is north of KALSUBAI. The north most tip of Godavari originates in SATMALA HILLS.

So Both Krishna,  Godavari and other small rivers, are going to have less water and that too polluted, in very near future.

I feel some outside and inside greedy forces{including current UPA has commited serious frod...... letting clearences for mining and establishment of alumina complexes by destroying Thick (Ever Green) Forests} are operating to destroy Andhra Pradesh. A big conspiracy is being hatched to destroy it.

rttnews.com:2/6/2009 12:47 AM ET
Chetan Shah, Managing Director Ashapura Group and A.M. Khan, Principal Secretary (Industries) of the Government of Maharashtra signed the MoU. The company has already filed an application with the Maharashtra Government seeking rights to mine bauxite on 14,000 acres and awaits its approval for exploring bauxite reserves in the state. The Maharashtra Government is awaiting Centre's clearance for granting mining leases.

Imples 56 Square Kilometers of Bauxite mining for Ashapura Group, in Maharstra, means a near Death of Godavari and Krishna. Where is the mapping of these 14 thousand acres is not given. Again people have to spend money take football travels to get information UNDER RTI Act. After that file PLI, in supreme court.

25/02/2009,

The Hindu (Vizag), reports on Feb 5, 2009 in Business page-18, about bauxite mining[200 Billion tonnes] in Maharastra, "Ashapura Minechem to set up alumina complex", at Ratnagiri, in the coastal belt of Maharastra.

A news line from The hindu, "As Araku has 60-million tonne deposit,, the raw material from that side will be enough for 15 to 18 years". [not less than 16.49square kilometers only in jerrilla, what about galikonda...araku... a total of ~Fifty ==50 square kilometers[Just Viskhapatnam Dist.] OF HIGH HILL RANGES(900Metres to 1600mtrs. above Mean Sea Level [M.S.L.]) is official, un official(Sq.km.) may be much higher].

Floods and Drought Aspects:

  1. Middle, North India are protected from flood disaster, as Eastern & Western Ghats condense majority of Cyclone(s) clouds, to fill up major and minor rivers[Godavari, Krishna, Mahanadi].
  2. These Ghats act Vast Gigantic Valleys( Funnels<==> Geo-Technological terms known as Water Enchachment Areas) to collect / direct rain water, into hill streams to join tributaries to rivers[ 10% of Godavari water is Contributed by, Sabari  of Eastern Ghats', over which you have Sileru Hydel Power Generation near Bhadrachalam. ].
  3. Food production through cultivation, is based on these Rivers. To feed our stomachs, will be reduced drastically / even lost at end of mining[with todays mining technology they may extract it within 20 years].
  4. During Cyclones, there would be floods [due to absence of mountains which used hold water like a sponge (if you have ever visited extreem inside of pulic zone Borra Guhalu, and seen ur self how water slowly perculated down in side hills emerger out at some other place and also contributes to Ground Water Table) ] and rest of the peroid no water in rivers , as the percentage of hill is greatly reduced [which were responsible for precipitation of less than cylcone clouds, i.e., medium and small rain spells].
  5. Less river Water =>less food production=> Loss of Work =>  Think of fall in food production, loss of jobs, middle, low INCOME PEOPLE & BELOW POVERTY LINE.

Earth Quake Angle:
  1. It is well known fact that,"The tectonic plate of INDIA, is being pushed by ocean power and also continent separation forces", in view of these two forces when mightiest Eastern and Western ghats are mined for minerals[like alumina/iron ore], their WATER RETENTION / HOLDING richness will  disappear [a person sitting on branch cut his own branch].

    The result will be :

  2. Rains will very less as mining goes on and the green cover is lost[no mountains to with enough condesing power ==> less / no rains+ Absence of Bauxite layers will not be able to hold water, and in During rainy season will lead to Floods(Polavaram dam will burst/break down as per Prof. Shivaji Rao http://profshivajirao.googlepages.com/polavaramdam-0 will / may cause the death of nearly 45,00,000 humans' and related natural habitat, a Colossal   Economic Loss), as surface runoff water increases, in the Rain Enchachment Area and during rest of the year no rain and hence the water bodies [ tributaties, Rivers, Reservoirs[Thatipudi, Raiwada, Thandva dam meghadri gadda,...] will dry, agriculture would cease, less food production, prices of eatables will shoot up, people will fight for food, crime rates will increase,... These all silent sins [things] created because of silence / cowardness of citizens [of Visakhapatnam] or Indians' remain Silent.
  3. Creation of Desert[RED SAND].
  4. Chance of Earth quakes will increase[Simple, Mountain is person sitting on a chair which is very difficult to move, if mountain is mined then the underlying tectonic plate will move faster].
  5. On the other hand, Oil and Gas companies both private and public have  commenced production in Krishna & Godavari basin along which there is Earth Quare category  ZoneII fault line.
  6.  Earth Quake Zone map of India
  7. Hence, INDIA[ns ] can be destroyed without waging a WAR / TERRORIST attacks easily [ by injecting Industrialists with GREED of money/Power].

Result is Less Food production, High prices, high poverty, crime rate( Robberries, Kidnappings, Murders, looting and GOOD people will commit Suicides ).

Andhra Pradesh Govt. bluffed its public by giving advertisement in the hindu in 2007, saying that bauxite hills have scanty green cover.

I personally went to Jerrila block  to survey and take pictures [where Villagers said its high Naxalite area, never visit here without a group strength of less than 30, and I personally advice you to even take the help of police before visiting there. To have first hand experience, like I had risk without informing police. ] Check out the LUSH green PICTURES takeb by me. Nature is so beautiful at 1500 metres above MSL[mean sea level], PADDY/RICE IS cultivated.

As a human born in AP, I feel since about a  year[I was the only citizen from visakhapatnam city, to speak on the Dias of Public hearing against  highlighting the ill effects of
 Mining *the_hin
du2007060503272100.htm*], today 05/05/2008. I sit to make out this file:

Vizianagaram June 4,2007 There was overwhelming opposition to the setting up of Jindal's alumina refinery at Boddavara village in the S. Kota mandal of Vizianagaram district at a public  conducted by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board on Monday.
It was the second time the public hearing was being conducted on setting up the refinery. Earlier, it was proposed to be set up at Sabbavaram in Visakhapatnam district and a public hearing was held in Visakhapatnam, but that plan was given up later, as the company found the land rates too high.

Vedic Perspective:
Let us Begin with the core concept of Siva and Parvathi, As per one of the Vedic definitions of the gods,

Definition of Shiva as per Vedas' is equivalent to hills/mountains[not less than 16.49square kilometers only in jerrilla, what about galikonda...araku... a total of ~Fifty ==50 square kilometers is official un official may be much higher], at the top of which precipitation of clouds occurs and the water[basic ingredient for almost all Life Forms] steams would form [Ganga originates on top of Siva’s head, Jhathajutadhari <==> These Bauxite mines play precisely the role of Sponge in holding the water and releasing it gradually, as said above by the Scientists of Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun.], These hills/mountains[Siva = whether dry /Semi arid /Lush-Green] act as funnels in collecting + retaining of water to form hill streams. A large collection [spread over hundreds of square kilometers] of such would create Tributaries to form rivers, on which some Cities Thrive.

Middle,North India are protected from flood disaster, as Eastern & Western Ghats condense majority of Cyclones clouds to fill up major and minor resources, These Ghats act Vast Gigantic Valeys( Funnels ) to direct rain water.

Also referred as THANDVA dam It gets its water from The GANGA that gets precepiptated on

Jatajutadhari, Shiva Mountain God at 1.6kilometeres above mean sealevel, Unfortunately ap

govt. is mining it of for bauxite and this dam will dry out in another 20 years if the

mining   is not stopped.

Parvathi, a goddess is often seen as PRAKRUTHI [NATURE], thrives on these hill steams.

Nature includes Botany and Zoology[ humans, birds, animals and life forms].

I humbly request the  Mining COMPANIES & ministers pray to PROTECT  HILLS GOD =Siva  @ BEACH OF VIZAG but be won't stop for Siva[The Hill God] Disappear Blatantly before public,

What is this greed embedded hypocracy?????

Now, "By Mining of our Hills aren't we making our very source of existence Disappear", an  undeniable thought for every conscious human with working heart and brain.

Are we going to mine from

                Anathagiri_hills_2__Araku_2_Galikonda_2_Paderu_2_ChintaPalli_Jerilla Hills???????

Then following water bodies will die out in opposite order:: Sileru, Thandva River+Dam, Varaha, Raiwada, Thatipudi, Jolaput[Orissa], Sabari River Tributary of GODAVARI.

ALUMINA MINING IS GOING TO CONSUME THIS NATURE INCLUDING NOT LESS THAN 3 CRORE HUMANS. FOOD SOURCE FOR NOT LESS THAN 5 CRORE PEOPLE.

Andhra Pradesh - Visakhapatnam

Setback to opponents of Jindal aluminium refinery

Santosh Patnaik

Clearance comes, protest at public hearing notwithstanding

VISAKHAPATNAM: The anti-mining protesters received another setback with the Ministry of Environment and Forests giving green signal for the alumina refinery proposed by JSW Aluminium Limited in S.Kota mandal of Vizianagaram.

MoEF decision came close on the heels of the Ministry of Mines clearance for mining of bauxite by the Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation in Jerrila hill range on an area of 1649 hectares in the scheduled areas of Visakhapatnam for supply of raw material to another alumina refinery proposed by Ras Al-Khaimah in Makavarapalem mandal.

The environmental clearance by MoEF came brushing aside strong protests at the public hearing held on June 6 [EPH that was held on 04/06/07] where the then Vizianagaram Joint Collector M. Jaganmohan in his minutes stated that 96 per cent of people who attended the hearing had expressed their opposition.

The refinery was first proposed at Sabbavaram and a public hearing was also conducted in the city but later the Jindal company opted to change the location finding the price offered by the district administration for sale of land ‘very high.’

The projects by Jindal and RAK, a kingdom in the United Arab Emirates, will involve an investment of Rs.20,000 crores.

The State signed agreements with them with a promise to give land and supply bauxite ore through the APMDC. ium Ltd.

Excerpts from http://www.minesandcommunities.org/Aboutus/Aboutus.htm

APMDC gets mining lease without survey?

The Hindu, 19th December 2007.

According to Mr. Ravi, as per GSI data, block one to four in Jerrela had 1,162 hectares but APMDC showed it as 1,649 hectares for the reasons best known to it.

The survey report should be forwarded to the Ministry for consideration after submitting it to Indian Bureau of Mines.

The APMDC is also waiting for clearance of its application for mining in Araku and Galikonda blocks to supply bauxite ore to Jindal South West Aluminium Limited which has an investment plan of Rs.10,000 crores.

The Opposition parties and NGOs are up in arms against mining as they feel that APMDC, which does not have the expertise, will engage companies floated by or close to Jindal and Ras-Al-Khaimah to mine on its behalf, circumventing Samata judgment.

----------------------------------------------------

There will be a 50-km rail linkage up to Semiliguda. As Araku has 60-million tonne deposit, the raw material from that side will be enough for 15 to 18 years. Mr. Gokhale claimed that 87 per cent of land identified by them belonged to the Government and only about 50 families would be displaced.

Araku, Galikonda,  Jerrela and other hill ranges:

1.      Are they not part of SO CALLED EASTERN GHATS which we learnt in our school as natural protectors of Indian planes [environment in which we are thriving]?

2.      Are these not the water enchachment areas of rivers/ flowing in surrounding areas? Isn't the forest cover going to reduce[by how much %]?

3.      Should all water / irrigation projects go to dogs?

4.      Aren't these companies trying to violate the basic enshrined rights and duties [g and h] of our Constitution?

5.      Are they not the property of entire INDIANS, how can one/group / a private company / one state govt. sell [cut down its own NOURISHING ROOTS]?

6.      Are the officers of Ministry of Environment and Forests, Survey of India sleeping? These officers are supposed to be the eagle/ hawks in protecting our natural resources.

7.      Would you like the Sileru, Sabari tributaries of Godavari, Krishna, Mahanadi to disappear?

8.      Would you like The major rice generator to disappear?

9.      Would you like the prices of all eatables[one day meal to cost 3days of earnings ] to be available at higher prices?

10. Will you/younger generation be alive and comfortable after 15 years?

11.               Do you call this Development?

    1. Stop Using Aluminium products[there are alternatives / even better materials / solutions just think and do research (like carbon nano fibre sheets which are lighter than aluminium and stronger than steel, bamboo composites,....)], so that demand falls, stop / reduce  flying by Aeroplanes, it contributes to less Global Warming. Boy Cott Products of Ras Al Khaimah (Rak ceramic tiles and other ) Jindal and Vedanta/Sterilite Companies. So that, they realize the impotance of hills in making of rivers and thus rural economy back bone of Modern Cities,  Milk and Food, for us.
